Healing Hearts to Offer Workshop for Spanish-Speaking Parents Who Have Lost a Child.
The entire family is affected when a child dies. Parents are experiencing their own loss, yet they must continue parenting other children who are also grieving. To help support Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers at this difficult time, Healing Hearts will offer a free workshop "Parenting After Loss" to be held on April 29, 2010 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The workshop will be held in Spanish and will take place at The Healing Hearts Cnetr for Grieving Children & Families at 73 Stadley Rough Road in Danbury, Connecticut. The workshop allows for discussion and education around the grief associated with the difficult loss of a child.
The workshop will be facilitated by Meyer Glaser, PhD, a clinical and school psychologist for Brookfield Public Schools. Dr. Glaser earned a doctorate of clinical psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and is a facilitator at The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families.
The Healing Hearts Center, a program of Regional Hospice, offers numerous support groups, workshops and programs to the public free of cost throughout the year.

Workshop to Focus on Grief Associated with Mother’s Day
For some people when their mother has died, Mother’s Day can be a very lonely time. To help adults experiencing the loss of their mother, Healing Hearts will offer the workshop “Mother’s Day When Your Mother Has Died” on May 5, 2010 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The workshop is offered at no cost and will take place at The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families at 73 Stadley Rough Road in Danbury, Connecticut. Participants will find insight and learn strategies to cope during Mother’s Day.
The workshop facilitator is Sherry Renne, MSW, a facilitator at The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families. She earned a master’s in social work from Fordham University and has experience providing trauma-focused treatment for individuals and families.

Healing Hearts Recognized as Finalist for Monroe E. Trout Premier Cares Awards
January 28, 2009 --The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families, a program of Regional Hospice, has been honored by Premier Inc. and its member hospitals for providing a unique approach to bereavement support for children and adults throughout Greater Danbury and neighboring towns in New York State.
Founded in 1995, Healing Hearts reaches beyond traditional hospice bereavement support by offering a community-based approach to preventing the long-term negative effects associated with complicated grief. The professionally staffed programs are offered free of charge to anyone in need of bereavement support.
Healing Hearts provides valuable resources to those who are grieving through unique programs for children, teens, and adults-more than 900 participated in 2008. More than 80 percent of children show improvement in behaviors such as problems sleeping or trouble at school after being a part of the program for a year. Adults say that more than 90% of their difficulties related to grief have improved.
Healing Hearts was one of six organizations nationally recognized as a finalist for the 17th annual Monroe E. Trout Premier Cares Award. The Cares Award, sponsored by Premier Inc. and its member hospitals, honors exemplary efforts by not-for-profit organizations to improve access to healthcare for the underserved.

Trout Cares Award and to be recognized for the unique approach to bereavement support offered through Healing Hearts,” said Cynthia Roy Squitieri, exeuctive director of Regional Hospice. “Healing Hearts can make a tremendous difference for those who need help coping with the loss of a loved one.”
Kendall Palladino, director of bereavement and spiritual services, and Mary Kincart, director of clinical operations, were recognized and presented with the finalist award during Premier’s annual Governance Education Conference, which took place in Scottsdale on January 27-29.
A panel of hospital professionals, as well as health and business industry leaders, selects the winner and five finalists, which all receive cash awards for use in further developing their programs. Winning Cares Award programs are used to spotlight community-based healthcare intitiatives and to assist in replicating best practice programs through the Leading Healthy Communities website (www. leadinghealthycommunities.com).

This year’s Cares Award recipient was the Help Understanding and Guide Me (HUG-Me) program at Orlando Health in Orlando, Florida, which has provided comprehensive HIV care to Central Florida since 1994. The four additional finalists are: BodyLove program at Media for Health, Birmingham, Alabama--a radio drama reaching African-American listeners with messages to promote healthy lifestyles; Heart Failure Clinic at Florida Hospital, Orlando, Florida--providing underserved patients with access to specialty care for chronic heart failure management; Referral Management Initiative of the Children’s Health Fund, New York, New York--ensuring homeless families receive the specialist care needed to treat complex medical conditions; and Toledo/Lucas County CareNet, Toledo, Ohio--a public/private partnership operating as a virtual free clinic.

Bowlers Support Regional Hospice
July 7, 2009—The 25th Annual Frank Bacon Memorial Strike-a-Thon once again brought the bowling community together to celebrate their year’s success, recognize the best bowlers in our area and at the same time support Regional Hospice. The annual “Bowl Against the Pro Tournament” that concluded the day’s activities at Brookfield Lanes was a special highlight featuring pro-bowler Robin Romeo along with bowling legend Nelson Burton, Jr. who has been part of the event every year.
This year more than $11,000 was raised to support Regional Hospice. The total amount donated since the Frank Bacon Strike-a-Thon began its association with Regional Hospice is more than $110,000. Strike-a-thon committee members include: Frank Acri (chairman), Margo Bacon, Daryl Bristol, Ellen Cooke, Jean Leitz, Emma Pangia and Debbie Thompson.
