Adam Feld’s Story

Adam Feld’s Story
Karen Feld
Adam Feld, a former patient, spent his final months in our Center for Comfort Care & Healing while bravely battling stage IV brain cancer in 2015, the very first year the Center opened. His suite was lovingly decorated with lobster art—Adam treasured blue lobsters for their rarity—and a former staff member even arranged for a beautiful metal lobster to be created just for him. After Adam’s death, his father, Gary, honored his son with a blue lobster tattoo on his arm, his first and only tattoo, a lasting symbol of their bond.
In the years since Adam’s loss, his mother, Karen Feld, has carried forward his memory through extraordinary acts of generosity. Though she once hoped to volunteer with us, returning to the Center felt emotionally tender, so instead she found another meaningful way to give back for the loving care Adam received. Karen now creates handmade quilts and pillowcases—each one stitched with care—and donates them to bring warmth and comfort to our patients and families. For a time, she also gathered monarch butterfly chrysalides and delivered the butterflies in decorated boxes for visiting children to release in the garden, offering joyful moments during challenging days.
Adam’s memory also lives on through a blue lobster paver in the Center‘s Memorial Garden — a beautiful blue tribute you simply can’t miss — reflecting both his love of rare blue lobsters and the deep love his family continues to share in his name. Karen often says her goal is simple: to put a smile on someone’s face, even for a second. We remain profoundly grateful for the Feld family’s generosity, and for the privilege of caring for Adam during his final months.
