Our Journey to Milestone Road

Throughout the last 30 years, Regional Hospice’s Board of Directors and executive and clinical staff realized a growing need for inpatient, end-of-life care when home care is not the best option for the patient or family. Patients and families wanted and needed privacy and comfort; complete family-centered support;  a home-like, serene environment; and a loving, interdisciplinary staff matching the clinical expertise of our 33 years caring for patients in their homes— all under one roof.

Changing CT Hospice Law In Support of Patients & Families

Beginning in 2008, our community of friends helped to make it possible:

• Families provided testimony. When their loved ones were dying, they needed a facility such as ours to care for them, but there were no options like our Center for Comfort Care and Healing.
• Former Gov. M. Jodi Rell and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy were among those who supported the changes in legislation, which passed unanimously in the Legislature’s Regulations Review Committee in 2012. After the changes were passed in the Connecticut State House and Senate, Governor Malloy signed the bill into law. After her term, Governor Rell continued to advocate for our in-patient center by co-chairing our building campaign: Building Hope Close to Home, along with Kevin Kelleher, president & CEO of Cartus.

Our Connecticut community stood by us with their generosity, their time and their continued support to make the Center for Comfort Care and Healing possible for every family when home is not the best option for care. Their vision made our beautiful Connecticut Hospice Center on Milestone Road a reality.
